Cambridgeshire based contract electronics manufacturer, Prism Electronics, has announced significant investment in PCB manufacturing capacity and an increase in the number of staff.

The new MY200SX-14 purchased by Prism is a high speed, high precision pick-and-place machine able to place up to 24,000 components per hour. Its addition to the company’s SMT manufacturing resources will allow Prism to further improve its already outstanding lead times and to address its customers’ ever growing demand for high precision PCBs using the latest components.

The new machine uses Mycronic’s patented Agilis feeders, which are well known for facilitating rapid changeovers and as a further aid to efficient operation.

Prism has also expanded its use of Aegis MES software, which offers complete traceability and control, whilst sifting out errors at an early stage and increasing product quality. Initially obtained to support new product introduction, further investment in the system has allowed full tracking of bar coded products throughout the factory enabling engineers to view progress and continually assess quality. This facilitates proactive and responsive manufacturing operations.

Building on a very successful year, Prism Electronics recently added two new members of staff to its team. Cheyenne Rowe and Zoe Frost are expanding production capabilities at the company’s headquarters based in St Ives, whilst further improving processes and factory efficiency.

Zoe Frost is the latest addition to the Prism team. As Surface Mount Team Leader, Zoe facilitates meeting targets in quality, cost, delivery and safety. She manages a team of 5 IPC certified operatives to deliver demanding surface mount requirements and high team standards through planned specialist training and regular assessments. In addition to this Zoe ensures the team continues to engage in and contribute to the process of continuous improvement.

Cheyenne Rowe has been recently appointed as engineering team leader at Prism. This new role builds upon Cheyenne’s 37 years of experience in industry working for blue chip electronics manufacturers across the UK. At Prism, his daily tasks include providing a technical interface for customers, resolving any issues with customer builds, as well as internal support to aid production planning and processing.

“In addition to liaising with customers and translating their requirements into our design and manufacturing capabilities, I am also involved in increasing efficiency and productivity at Prism,” explains Rowe. “Lean manufacturing procedures are an integral part of our continuous improvement plans. Last year Prism received a Highly Commended in the Judges Special Award category of the Best Factory Awards… it is my ambition that next year we’ll have even better results thanks to our continually improving factory processes.”
